Going up by rail to the highest Swiss mountains (our baby was 13 months old)乘坐火车观赏瑞士最高峰（我们女儿13个月整）
22.06.2009 12 °C
On our last day in Zermatt we decided to take a train to bring us up to 3000m where we could see the highest mountains of Switzerland.
Walking on the main road in Zermatt to the train station.
This is how our train looked like.
Here is the first stop of our route, Riffelalp.
Some nice hotels can be found there.
Of course you also can see Matterhorn from there.
The second stop was at Riffelberg.
This place is closest to Matterhorn, so obviously we took some pictures there.
Waiting for the next train at Riffelberg station.
Here we are at Rotenboden, the 3rd station.
The mountains you can see from here are all about 4000 meters high (such as Klein Matterhorn and Breithorn) and covered by snow the whole year.
Up here it was already quite cool and windy, so we were happy when the next train finally arrived to bring us to the top station: Gornergrat.
This is the view from Gornergrat.
Here you are very close to the highest Swiss mountain: Monte Rosa (4634m).
Gorner glacier (in the middle) with Monte Rosa (to the left).
Unfortunately some parts of the mountains were covered by clouds.
As it was very cold up there, we only took a few pictures and then quickly went inside to the Gornergrat restaurant.
Whilst our baby was still eating, I took some more pictures outside.
Here we are going down again by the train.
Back in Zermatt.
Delicious dinner (pork leg) and dessert.
Back at our hotel room we took some last pictures of Matterhorn.
